I could not find in the documentation a way to filter between 2 dates, except adding a column with a formula but I am not sure it would be the right way, no ?
I mean, if I am using the API to filter, is it possible ?

Unfortunately not. On our product roadmap, we have an item to add support for direct sql interfaces, which would permit this. The best way to filter between two dates would be to add a formula column then filter based on that.
An example of this can be seen in the ‘Falls in 1 Month Range?’ column of the table linked below. You could then filter on this column.
