Grist Desktop Mac lots of temporary files?

I have been using Grist Desktop ion Mac OS.

Under the /Documents folder I see a lots. of files with names like psdXnUZbBewdFWCzVRy3ny.grist

Are those temporary files that can be deleted? or the actual files for the different documents?

I think I can change the directory with the env var GRIST_DATA_DIR

I do backups once daily thru the Download Option, is there a better way to backup my Documents ?

just one more thing, where is teh best way to set the GRIST_DATA_DIR variable?

On the /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.grist.env.plist ?
