Is there plans to increase the type of ec2 instance that can be used for Omnibus? The last one my company was using is the m5.xlarge but our document is so big and keeps slowing down so we are planning to go up to t2.2xlarge which I think is the cap so I was wondering if the higher powered instances will be compatible with Omnibus in the future?
Hi,
We have deprecated the Omnibus offering on the AWS Marketplace. Its similar but not identical replacement is Grist Builder Edition. We will therefore not be making any further changes to the Omnibus offering, but I will take into consideration your suggestion to offer larger instance types for Grist Builder Edition.
For Omnibus, however, nothing stops you from copying your existing setup into a larger instance. Have you already tried? All you have to do is take a snapshot AMI of your current EC2 instance running Omnibus. Then start a new EC2 from the snapshot you took. When you start the new EC2 instance, you can configure the size you would like to use.
I hope this solves the problem.
(there are some notes on moving to our newer offering here if you’re interested: Transitioning to Grist Builder Edition - Grist Help Center)
I tried to create an AMI image of the current EC2 omnibus we are using and scale up the type of instance but it won’t allow us to use really powerful instances. Is that supposed to be the case? You mentioned snapshot so would I have to create a snapshot volume from the current omnibus being utilized?
