Move a document to another team space

Before we had team spaces, we used work spaces to organise documents into contexts.

After establishing separate team spaces per former work space, it is now much easier to configure permissions for a given set of documents.

This situation has led to some documents still living in the original work space within a personal space, with new document being created in the team space.

This brings the need to move documents between spaces, here from a personal space to a team space. Currently, this is not possible.

A workaround is to download the SQLite database of a document as a .grist file and to reimport it into the desired team space. Unfortunately this will also change its URL, which is more relevant when it had been published publicly before.

Hello, I exactly have the same problem. Is there any update since your last message @yala1 ?

We’re still exporting and reimporting Databases this way to the day.

A native transfer option could also help to set up redirects for documents that change place, but are still published.

Downloading and reimporting is one way. Another is to use the Duplicate Document option: Copying documents - Grist Help Center.

Unfortunately, there isn’t an option to move documents, at least not yet. When you make a copy, it’s naturally a new document, so gets a new URL.

I updated the issue opened by @Ava_Barimani on github to be a feature request to support moving documents. That one is more about forms, but I think the concept of moving a document is the best solution for that too. Will continue the discussion there since it’s easier for developers to weigh in on github.
